#6 - Mushroom Infused Coffee, Maple Water, Occupancy Tracking and more

The Recap
This week we are featuring startups infusing whole coffee beans with mushrooms to add nutrients, using maple sap to create water which provides hydration and nutrients and a platform which can monitor occupancy levels in coffee shops around Boston. There are also two opportunities to join the WISE and Entrepreneurship clubs which both play a significant impact in bolstering Northeastern’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Undergrad Featured Ventures
Mode is looking to increase confidence when people shop online by identifying which clothes provide the best fit for an individual’s body type. Mode is building a platform that uses body scanning technology to identify a user’s measurements and then match the user with a variety of existing brands that would be a good fit. Currently, Mode is in the process of developing their platform, expanding their team, and looking to launch in the coming months.

Skipit has the goal of eliminating people’s wait times at local businesses to reduce unnecessary time waste and health and safety risks (due to crowds) amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Skipit is developing a platform that can record the occupancy of local businesses and accurately make predictions about the wait time for a new customer. Skipit’s beta platform, which provides the occupancy of 14 different coffee shops around Northeastern’s campus, is currently live and their company is looking to scale their operations in early January. Skipit also was the Social Media Challenge winner and Audience Favorite at the Fall 2020 Husky Startup Challenge.

KLIP Tech is developing a device and a platform to help individuals quickly and discretely contact authorities when they find themselves in unsafe situation. KLIP Tech was founded by two female runners and engineers who were disappointed by the current tracking options on the market and wanted to create a product which would appeal to athletes. Through building a software platform along with a physical device, KLIP Tech is also working to create a supportive community to help individuals who recover from dramatic street harassment incidents. Currently, KLIP Tech is in the process of furthering the development of their physical product and software platform.

Peak State coffee is revolutionizing people’s coffee routine by introducing whole bean coffee with added nutrients that are antioxidant rich and immune boosting. The coffee company is capitalizing on the rising wellness trend of functional mushrooms (mushrooms known to be packed with antioxidants, essential vitamins, and nutritional value). Peak State has developed their own proprietary process for infusing their sustainably grown and sourced coffee beans with botanical extracts from functional mushrooms. Currently, Peak State sells light, medium and dark roast varieties and is looking to scale up their production and marketing.
