The Recap

The Fintech space has had a whirlwind of a year. The combination of unprecedented market fluctuations and rapid economic growth has caught many Fintech companies that relied on AI or predictive modeling off guard. Though many of these companies have learned to adapt, Fintech companies tackling the insurance, housing and investing spaces have continued to thrive. In this edition, we feature a collection of emerging Fintech startups in the Boston community. Make sure to subscribe below and read to the end for job and internship opportunities at many of the featured startups!

Featured Fintech Startups

Founders: Peter MacDonald and Joseph Schnare

Founded in 2018 out of an MBA program at Boston College, Wunderite is a data exchange platform that aims to bring efficiency to the commercial insurance marketplace, transparency to stakeholders, and actionable insight to decision makers. Working as an insurance consultant for 10 years, MacDonald recognized the need to move the insurance industry away from pen and paper. They were a finalist at the Rice Business Pitch Competition in 2018 and raised a pre-seed round of $120K last June.

Founder: Steve Le Roux, Diederik Meeuwis and Matina Dimitriadou

Started out of Harvard, and later backed by MIT, Envel is a Fintech startup that is reimagining modern banking. While at college, Le Roux and his friends became frustrated with the antiquated banking system that failed to benefit both parties equally. Rather than remaining complacent, Le Roux engineered Envel, the first-ever AI-based autonomous bank account. With Envel’s patented algorithms and envelopes software, the customer gets access to automated optimization of finances and better money organization, allowing you to stress less about budgeting and focus more on everything else.
