This week we are featuring startups that are working to make people live more sustainable lifestyles along with others trying to democratize split-tender payments and improve factory efficiency. We are also launching the opportunity section for the newsletter which will contain entrepreneurial focused events and competitions located in the Boston community.
Undergrad Featured Ventures
ShowNxt is looking to streamline collegiate recruiting and decrease the wealth disparities in recruiting which often reduce athletes ability to gain exposure to recruiters. ShowNxt is developing a platform that allows athletes to showcase their skills in 15 second videos that can be viewed by recruiters world wide. Currently, ShowNxt is partnered with over 25 institutions and has raised $140,000 in funding. ShowNxt is looking to launch in January of next year and to start making an immediate impact on recruiting in the Boston community.

CleavePay is developing a platform which will allow for split-tender payments enabling consumers to split the purchase price of a good between multiple payment sources including crypto currencies. Currently CleavePay is working to partner with a bank and finalize the development of their software platform. CleavePay is already available to users and is currently in the process of adding more online stores and raising funds.

Fluxxio is working to solve material flow management inefficiencies which lead to higher capital and maintenance costs typically associated with silent thermal and pressure fatigue. Fluxxio combats these inefficiencies through a noninvasive device which monitors a pipe's key flow metrics and a synced software platform to provide real-time suggestions on how companies can limit flow inefficiencies with accurate, rolling profit-and-loss estimates. Currently, Fluxxio is in the process of finalizing their first prototype and is planning to launch a pilot MVP in the coming year.

Graduate Featured Ventures
Lochtree is working to bring awareness to sustainable and ecofriendly products along with making them more accessible to consumers. Lochtree highlights specific environmental friendly products using their online platform and strives to have an authentic approach to sustainability. Currently, Lochtree has over 30 products on their ecommerce platform and is entirely bootstrapped. Lochtree is hoping to scale its offerings to over 60 products by the end of the year and raise funding to help grow their business.

Alumni Featured Ventures
UFO is democratizing an environmentally friendly, dairy free and plant based beverage known as hemp milk. Through reducing the consumption of dairy products, UFO is helping individuals reduce their environmental footprint without causing significant consumption or lifestyle changes. Currently, UFO offers a variety of flavors including unsweetened, vanilla, banana, and chocolate and is sold in 37 retail locations in southern California, 35 of which are Whole Foods Market. UFO is currently raising funds to help them expand across the country.

If you’re a founder working on an early-stage startup, apply to join the Contrary Pitch Competition! Selected teams will participate in a virtual pitch competition on Tuesday, December 1st from 7-8:30pm ET. Pitches will be 2 minutes followed by 3 minutes of Q&A.
Contrary will award a $1K cash prize to a first-place team selected by a panel of judges, and a $250 audience choice prize selected by all of you!

Alex Marley is a junior majoring in electrical engineering and economics at Northeastern University.
